PLAINFIELD, NJ – EZ Ride, the city of Plainfield, and Atlantic Health are partnering with Rudilcia Market to host another free event for residents that features health screenings, nutrition and health information.
Market customers who attend will get a coupon for a free healthy snack or drink, and will have an opportunity to win one of two baskets filled with healthy snacks and lifestyle items like a water bottle, a jump rope, oatmeal, low sodium beans, and fresh fruit.
The event at Rudilcia Market, located at 846 East 2nd Street, will take place on Wednesday from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m., and is made possible by a grant from the NJ Healthy Corner Store Initiative, as well as support from the city.
For many Plainfield residents, the corner store may be a primary destination for quick, easy food shopping. The Healthy Corner Store Initiative was launched to support corner store owners who are committed to increasing the availability of healthy food options in their stores that offer customers healthier options. EZ Ride has recruited stores located near schools or multi-dwelling residences to encourage children and youth to eat healthier.
Rudilcia owners Rudi and Ilcia Torres said, “We joined the NJ Healthy Corner Store Initiative because we care about the health of our customers, especially children.”
Nurses from Atlantic Health will be on hand to conduct health screenings, and EZ Ride will provide nutrition information and free, healthy recipes. Since many residents may not have health insurance, corner store events like this can serve as a place where they can get preventive health screenings, receive important health information, and get tips on choosing foods that are lower in saturated fats, sodium, and added sugar.
