Camden Night Gardens on Friday, May 18th marked the first event of the 2018 Connect the Lots summer season. The free event included live music from local bands, dance performances, art installations, fireworks, and a car show. A full line-up of programming and special events for the season was also announced.
Connect the Lots offers a wide variety of activities to engage Camden residents and to reinvigorate parks and underutilized spaces in Camden neighborhoods,” said Kris Kolluri, CEO of Cooper’s Ferry Partnership.
The season’s other major events include Camden’s Got Talent, the city’s third annual talent show, on June 28that Dudley Grange Park; the Camden Peace Games, a citywide basketball fest, on July 28th at Von Nieda Park; and the Camden Jam: Arts and Music Festival on September 9th.
This year, Connect the Lotshas expanded its reach in underutilized spaces to include Camden’s waterways. The first annual “I Paddle Camden” will take place on June 23rdon Newton Creek and then July 21ston Cooper River. There are many opportunities to explore Camden in new ways this summer—in a kayak, on a bike, or on foot. With the return of “I Bike Camden,” residents can take a 10-mile leisure bike ride on June 9th starting at Cooper’s Poynt Waterfront Park. The schedule also features “I Walk Camden,” a walk event hosted by Mayor Moran through his own East Camden neighborhood.
With special events and weekly activities, Connect the Lots offers free family-friendly activities nearly every day this summer. Additional regular weekly events include:
Connect the Lotsis a collaboration between Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, the City of Camden, Get Healthy Camden, Camden Promise Zone, and the residents and stakeholders of the Camden neighborhoods where the program’s activities and events take place. The goal of Connect the Lotsis to engage Camden residents in neighborhood transformation by creating safe hubs of activity and quality programming for residents to enjoy in public spaces and corridors. Connect the Lotsutilizes creative placemaking to improve personal and environmental health outcomes, community engagement, public safety, and neighborhood physical conditions.
